Hyderabad, July 27: Oval Advanced Fertility Care celebrated World IVF Day with The Oval Collective, a curated event that brought together aspiring parents, healthcare experts, and wellness professionals for meaningful discussions on reproductive health. Hosted at Oval's Banjara Hills flagship centre, the event was designed to move beyond clinical conversations and create a welcoming space where fertility, nutrition, fitness, emotional wellbeing and assisted reproduction could be discussed openly.
The event featured engaging sessions on Nutrition, Fertility & Fitness, led by renowned nutritionist Gayatri Shetty and fitness expert Nicole Linhares, exploring how lifestyle, nutrition and physical wellbeing influence reproductive health before, during and beyond fertility treatment. Yet another session was hosted on All Things IVF, hosted by Dr. Tanaya Narendra, offered an evidence-based perspective on IVF, helping participants understand who truly needs fertility treatment, dispelling common myths, and answering questions surrounding assisted reproductive technologies.
As fertility challenges continue to rise due to factors such as delayed parenthood, lifestyle changes and underlying medical conditions, experts at the event highlighted the importance of early fertility awareness. Experts explained that oral contraceptive (OC) pills do not harm fertility; in fact, by temporarily suppressing ovulation, they can help protect ovarian function in certain medical conditions such as endometriosis and prevent unintended pregnancies until an individual is ready to conceive. The session cautioned against fear-mongering around birth control. They further clarified that conceiving naturally after IVF is entirely possible, as IVF does not permanently alter the body's ability to conceive and some couples go on to achieve spontaneous pregnancies.
Dr. Tanaya Narendra, University of Oxford trained embryologist and medical doctor said, "One of the biggest myths surrounding IVF and egg freezing is that these procedures 'use up' your eggs or lead to early menopause. That's simply not true. Every month, your body naturally recruits a group of eggs, but only one typically matures for ovulation while the rest are lost. Fertility treatments work by helping more of these naturally recruited eggs mature in that cycle, they don't deplete your lifetime egg reserve. Equally important, if you're considering egg freezing, remember that you're preserving your genetic material, so it's essential to ask the right questions about storage, ownership, costs, and what happens if you never use your eggs. And when evaluating a clinic, always ask whether they're quoting pregnancy rates or live birth rates, because the latter is the outcome that truly matters. Finally, don't make life-changing decisions based on a single AMH score or what you see on social media. Fertility is far more nuanced and deserves personalised medical guidance."
Dr. Sandeep Karunakaran, Medical Director, Oval Advanced Fertility Care, said, “IVF has transformed millions of lives over the past 4 decades, but one of the biggest misconceptions we continue to see is that IVF is the answer to every fertility concern. The reality is that fertility care begins much earlier - with awareness, timely evaluation, preventive reproductive health and personalized treatment. Many couples conceive naturally with the right medical guidance, while others may benefit from simpler interventions before considering IVF. Our responsibility as fertility specialists is not just to offer advanced treatments, but to ensure every patient receives the most appropriate, ethical and evidence-based care for their unique circumstances.”
Dr. Keerthana Vemula, Consultant and ART Specialist, Oval Fertility said, "Female fertility is closely linked to age. While fertility is generally at its peak between the late twenties and early thirties, it begins to decline gradually after 32, with a more significant drop in both the number and quality of eggs after the age of 35. However, infertility is rarely caused by a single factor. While chronic stress can disrupt menstrual cycles and ovulation, it is not the sole reason for infertility. Similarly, conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis may make conception more challenging, but they do not mean pregnancy is impossible. With timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and a proactive approach to reproductive health, many women with these conditions can conceive successfully."
Speaking on the occasion, Veena Reddy, Co-Founder, Oval Advanced Fertility Care, said, "World IVF Day is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible advancements that have helped millions build families, but it is equally important to create spaces where people can ask questions without fear or judgment. Fertility care begins with awareness, empathy and honest conversations."
