Aug 11: India’s popular rap reality show Legacy, created by Ankita Khanna, Co-founder, Kalamkaar, KR$NA, Raftaar in collaboration with SVF Entertainment, has announced Hindi Zee 5 as its streaming partner. The series will now stream every Tuesday and Friday at 7 PM exclusively on Hindi Zee 5, while episodes will continue to be available on the Kalamkaar Music YouTube channel, expanding the show's accessibility to audiences across platforms.
As part of the partnership, each episode will premiere on Hindi Zee 5 approximately 40 hours ahead of its release on the Kalamkaar Music YouTube channel, giving Hindi Zee 5 subscribers early access to the series. Additionally, the finale, Episode 17, will be exclusively available on Hindi Zee 5 for its audience.
Legacy is built around the larger vision of discovering, mentoring and nurturing India's next generation of hip-hop artists. Rather than focusing solely on popularity, the series puts the spotlight on lyricism, originality, storytelling, artistic growth and authenticity, bringing together emerging rappers from across the country and giving them a platform to develop their craft.
The partnership with Hindi Zee 5 further strengthens the show's reach as it continues to build a long-term platform for India's independent hip-hop community. Since its premiere, Legacy has received a strong audience response, with episodes consistently crossing 850K-1 million+ views on the Kalamkaar Music YouTube channel.
Kaveri Das, Business Head, Hindi Zee 5 and Chief Channel Officer &TV, said,
“Hip-hop is a powerful expression of individuality, and India’s new generation of artists is bringing a fresh, fearless energy to the culture. Legacy captures that spirit by giving emerging talent the freedom to be themselves, challenge conventions and carve their own path. For Hindi Zee 5, the show is also an opportunity to deepen our connection with a younger audience and bring them closer to the platform through a genre and format that naturally resonates with them. With the energy and engagement around our FIFA audience, Legacy further allows us to connect with an evolving, youth-led audience universe. As the streaming partner, we are excited to bring these distinctive voices and journeys to audiences across the country, reinforcing our commitment to entertainment that is original, unconventional and unafraid to push boundaries.”
Ankit Khanna, Co-founder, Kalamkaar, says,
“Kalamkaar has always stood for building artists, not just creating hits. Legacy reflects everything we've believed in from day one, investing in talent, nurturing originality and creating opportunities that have a lasting impact. Hindi Zee 5 coming on board as our streaming partner is an exciting step in taking that vision to a larger audience. We hope Legacy becomes a platform that artists aspire to be part of, year after year, while contributing to the continued growth of India's independent music ecosystem.”
Speaking about the partnership and the show's larger vision, KR$NA says, “India has never lacked talent, it has lacked platforms that truly understand hip-hop. Legacy is about finding artists who respect the craft and are ready to push themselves. With Zee 5 coming on board, we're able to take these artists and their journeys to an even wider audience. If this show inspires even a handful of artists to believe in their voice, we've achieved what we set out to do.”
Raftaar adds,
“Hip-hop has always been about giving a voice to people who have something real to say. With Legacy, we're creating a platform where talent isn't judged by numbers or popularity, but by skill, hunger and originality. The partnership with Hindi Zee 5 gives us another opportunity to bring these stories and the journey of becoming an artist to more people across the country.”
More than a reality competition, Legacy offers audiences an inside look at the journey of building a career in music. Each episode combines high-stakes rap battles, creative challenges, performances and candid conversations, highlighting the resilience, discipline and artistry required to find a place in India's evolving hip-hop landscape.
The series has also featured special guest judges including Ikka and Raghav Juyal, bringing diverse perspectives and industry insights to the competition. With new episodes now available across Hindi Zee 5 and the Kalamkaar Music YouTube channel, Legacy continues its endeavour to discover and amplify the voices that will shape the future of Indian hip-hop.
