June 16 : Sukhani recently starred in Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, and while the film continues to click with the audience, the actress recalled how she landed the role. “How many actors can really say that I am in an Imtiaz Ali film?” asks Anjana Sukhani, while revealing that her journey began with a call inviting her to meet the filmmaker.
“He wanted to see me on camera,” recalls Sukhani as she shares that the filmmaker asked first to send an introduction video. “When I met him at his office, I think he saw Meher in me. He narrated the part to me. And no questions. Who am I to say no to Imtiaz?” she says. While discussing, Sukhani realised that her character Meher shared shades of Geet from Jab We Met. “Like Geet, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan] Meher has no filter. I feel all of Imtiaz’s women are mature but have a childish quality to them. She innocently speaks about the wrong things at the most unfavourable time. It’s an endearing character,” says the actor.
Anjana also expresses joy upon working alongside the veteran actor, Naseeruddin Shah.
“Every time I did a scene with him, I teared up because of the way he performed. Just watching him perform is a masterclass in itself.” Amiring co-star Diljit Dosanjh too, she says, “Diljit comes with a lot of sincerity and honesty as an artiste. He knows everybody’s lines, so when I fumbled, he would tell me my line.”
In Main Vaapas Aaunga, Anjana Sukhani is seen adding weight to the film’s entire world alongside Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari. With positive reviews and a strong word of mouth surrounding the film and performances, Main Vaapas Aaunga has struck the right chord among the audience with a soul that connects instantly.
