Trailblazing Visual Artist Gunjan Tyagi Selected for 2026 Every Woman Biennial ‘SPECTALIA’ in NYC

Widely recognized as the world’s largest biennial dedicated to women and non-binary artists, the Every Woman Biennial brings together hundreds of artists from across disciplines through a global open call. The 2026 edition explores themes of spectacle, carnival, and resistance, offering a vibrant, cross-disciplinary platform for artistic dialogue.

Hosted at Pen + Brush Gallery—a historic nonprofit space championing women and gender-expansive artists for over a century—the exhibition aligns with a mission to amplify underrepresented voices in the global art ecosystem.

At the biennial, Gunjan Tyagi presented Under the Table, a striking work that examines the tension between visible order and hidden chaos. Featuring a wild crocodile beneath a neatly arranged table, the piece acts as a metaphor for unseen dangers and suppressed realities. Created on traditional Wasli paper using mixed media, the work bridges ancient craftsmanship with contemporary anxieties.

Based in Schenectady, New York, Tyagi’s artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, and mixed media. Her work has been exhibited across more than fourteen countries, including India, the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and South Korea, among others. She holds an MFA from Sir J.J. School of Art and a BFA from Kurukshetra University, where she graduated as a university topper.

Reflecting on her participation, Tyagi said,

“I am honored to be part of SPECTALIA. My work often navigates the space between spectacle and resistance, between what is seen and what is erased. To present this dialogue on International Women’s Day, within a platform dedicated to women and non-binary artists, feels both powerful and deeply personal.”

Tyagi’s inclusion in the Every Woman Biennial 2026 underscores her growing global presence and continued engagement with themes of identity, migration, cultural memory, and ecological tension.
