April, 8: Makaibari Bungalow at Taj Bengal hosted an intimate and thought-provoking literary evening in collaboration with Kolkata Literary Meet 2026, bringing together members of the city’s literary and cultural community for an exclusive book reading session on April 7.
Presented by Luxmi Tea Group, custodians of the historic Makaibari Tea Estate, the evening reflected the group’s long-standing association with thoughtful conversation, culture, and heritage.
The session featured acclaimed journalist and author Harinder Baweja in conversation with writer and commentator Aritra Sarkar on Baweja’s book, They Will Shoot You Madam– My Life Through Conflict. The conversation unfolded as an engaging and candid exchange. Harinder Baweja spoke about reporting from conflict zones, the emotional realities behind journalism, and the experiences that informed her book. Aritra Sarkar guided the session with insight and sensitivity, drawing out themes of courage, memory, resilience, and the role of storytelling in documenting difficult truths
Guests arrived at Makaibari Bungalow for a refined high tea at 5:30 pm before gathering for the author session, which commenced at 6:15 pm. Set within the elegant and intimate surroundings of Makaibari Bungalow at Taj Bengal, the evening offered the perfect backdrop for reflection and dialogue.
