Panchkula Hospital Marks World Asthma Day with Call for Early Detection

Panchkula, May 8, 2025: To observe World Asthma Day on Tuesday, Paras Health Panchkula organized an event to raise awareness about asthma and its management. This year’s theme focused on the importance of community involvement and education. The event brought together people from all backgrounds to learn about the impact of asthma on health. A key part of the event was a Pledge Board placed in the hospital’s main Outpatient Department (OPD).

Visitors were invited to sign the board, showing their commitment to raising awareness about asthma. This interactive initiative encouraged patients and their families to take proactive steps toward better asthma management.

Dr SK Gupta, Associate Director, Pulmonology, Paras Health, Panchkula, emphasized the importance of such awareness campaigns and said, “Many people in India mistake asthma for a regular cough or allergy, which delays treatment. By the time they see a doctor, the condition has often become serious. That’s why efforts like the pledge board are important, as they help people understand the early signs and encourage them to get help sooner. Creating awareness like this can save lives.”

Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory disease among children. It remains a major health issue in India, with over 30 crore people affected. Common symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, especially at night or in the morning. Triggers like air pollution, weather changes, and allergens can worsen symptoms. Early diagnosis and proper management can improve quality of life and help prevent severe health complications.

Dr Robin Gupta, Senior Consultant, Pulmonology, Paras Health, Panchkula, echoed these thoughts, noting, “Asthma doesn’t just affect breathing; it affects daily life, school, work, and even sleep. Many people ignore the early signs or don’t know they have asthma until it gets worse. That’s why public education is so important. When the community is informed and involved, we can catch symptoms early, reduce hospital visits, and help people live more comfortably and confidently.”

Paras Health remains committed to public health through initiatives like these, reinforcing its ongoing efforts to provide world-class healthcare while raising awareness on critical health issues. This event exemplifies the hospital’s dedication to the well-being of the community and strengthens its role as a leader in healthcare services.
