Sanskrit is celebrated as the mother of all languages. While Sanskrit is not used as extensively today, the show Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, airing on Sun Neo, briefly incorporates the language and its power to connect with viewers. Actresses Sara Khan and Jaya Bhattacharya, who play Goddess Kritikayein and Urmila respectively, have discussed the use of the language, its importance, and the need to preserve it in today’s Gen Z era.

Sara Khan, who portrays Goddess Kritikayein, said, “Sanskrit has helped me understand the nuances of Hindi and other Indian languages, making me a better actress. The line ‘Satyameva Jayate’ (Truth always triumphs) is close to my heart and inspires me to stay true to myself and my craft.”

She added, “Playing Goddess Kritikayein in Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya involves using Shudh Hindi with certain Sanskrit words, which is quite challenging but rewarding.”

Jaya Bhattacharya, who plays Urmila, feels that Sanskrit is underutilized in today’s cinema and needs preservation. “Unfortunately, Sanskrit doesn’t influence Indian cinema much today. However, it’s uplifting to see its presence on some OTT platforms. Preserving and promoting Sanskrit is crucial as it’s part of our heritage. Neglecting it means losing touch with our roots. While embracing other cultures and languages is important, we must remember that the West is also drawn to our Sanatan Dharma. Understanding our scriptures deeply is essential.”

She added, “We should not rely solely on what we are taught but seek to understand and appreciate our cultural base. We are losing pride in our heritage. If Sanskrit were used in projects, even occasionally, with explanations, it would help the public reconnect with our cultural legacy.”

Sara Khan echoed this sentiment and emphasized, “Sanskrit is the mother of all languages and a treasure trove of Indian culture and knowledge. Preserving it helps us stay connected to our roots. We can incorporate Sanskrit into our scripts, dialogues, and storytelling, making it relevant and appealing once again.”

Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya is a heartfelt family drama featuring Vaishnavi (Brinda Dahal), an orphan who sees Chhathi Maiyya (Devoleena Bhattacharjee) as her mother. The show highlights the victory of good over evil through faith and devotion. Starring Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Sara Khan, Jaya Bhattacharya, Brinda Dahal, and Aashish Dixit, Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya airs on Sun Neo, Monday to Saturday at 7 PM.
