Bengaluru, India – September 20, 2024: Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic and CSR arm of Infosys, has kicked off its ‘Month of Gracious Giving’ initiative this September across Infosys Development Centers in India. As part of this inaugural initiative, Infosys employees participated to produce over 200,000 seedballs in an hour. These seedballs will be used for reforestation projects across more than 20 locations in India, helping restore native flora, promote biodiversity, and support local ecosystems.
A wide variety of native plant seeds such as Neem, Tamarind, Sandalwood, Teak, and Mahogany, will be planted in designated reforestation areas across India, including Bannerghatta National Park in Bengaluru, Utkalmani Gopalbandhu Ashram Grounds in Bhubaneswar, and the Yeoor Hills in Mumbai.
This record–setting achievement marks the start of a month-long series of employee-focused volunteering activities at Infosys dedicated to community engagement and environmental sustainability. It will also feature various other volunteering activities aimed at encouraging employees to engage in community service, educational outreach, and environmental conservation projects, further reinforcing Infosys Foundation’s commitment of giving back to society.
Shaji Mathew, Trustee, Infosys Foundation, said, “The ‘Month of Gracious Giving’ stands witness to Infosys Foundation’s continued commitment towards making a positive impact on society. The seedball initiative is part of our broader effort to make volunteering a key part of our culture, allowing Infoscions to create a lasting impact on the environment and communities. Through this initiative we set an example of what can be accomplished when we collectively work towards a common goal. This accomplishment also reflects Infosys’ long-standing dedication to ecological stewardship and social responsibility.”
Neelam Kapoor, Head of Wonder Book of Records, said, “We are delighted to recognize Infosys Foundation for their outstanding support in our mission to plant 200,000 seedballs. This initiative is about more than just planting seeds—it’s about planting hope, resilience, and a vision for a greener tomorrow. Infosys Foundation has demonstrated true leadership and commitment to sustainability by joining hands with us to breathe new life into barren lands. Together, we are nurturing a future where our planet thrives, and we are proud to honour Infosys for being a vital part of this transformative journey.”
Through its various environmental support initiatives, Infosys has planted over a million trees across its Development Centers including its Mangalore SEZ campus, where over 500,000 trees have been planted. The reforestation efforts at Mangalore ensured trees native to the region transformed the barren land into a lush green rainforest.
