Hyderabad, December 20, 2024- Jishnu Dev Varma, the Governor of Telangana inaugurated Lions 52nd ISAME Forum 2024 conference on Thursday late evening at HICC in Madhapur. It is a three-day conference and will conclude on December 21st.
ISAME stands for India, South Asia, and the Middle East. 1600 delegates from 20 countries are expected to participate. This forum is being held in Hyderabad after a gap of 15 years.
Addressing the gathering immediately after inaugurating it, the Governor said Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service organization. Hosting this international conference in the vibrant city of Hyderabad, with delegates from over 15 countries, is a matter of pride and honour. Hyderabad, often referred to as the city of Pearls,” is not just a city of rich history and culture but also a symbol of progressive growth and inclusivity.
Established in 1917 now with nearly 1.4 million members worldwide, this organization exemplifies the spirit of global unity and collective action, he said.
As our ancient scriptures extol “Seva dharmaḥ paramagahanaḥ, sukhaduḥkhayoḥ samaḥ”, which means “The duty of service is profound, transcending joy and sorrow alike.” The Lions embody this principle, dedicating their efforts to uplift humanity through unwavering commitment.
The ISAME region, encompassing India, South Asia, and the Middle East, represents the largest constitutional area of Lions Clubs, with 350,000 members. It is heartening to note that India leads as the largest contributor, with 270,000 dedicated men and women actively championing various causes, the Governor said.
I commend the Lions for their exceptional focus on empowering women through initiatives like She Shakti, which aim to strengthen women’s roles in society. This reflects the timeless wisdom of Chanakya, “Sukhasya mülaṁ dharmaḥ. Dharmasya mülaṁ arthaḥ. Arthasya mulaṁ rājyam.” Which means “The root of happiness is righteousness; the root of righteousness is resources, and the root of resources is leadership.” he added.
Speaking further Jishnu Dev Varma said that through leadership and service, the Lions have upheld the essence of empowerment and righteousness. Your contributions to healthcare are remarkable. Over 100 Lions Hospitals across India, with a significant emphasis on eye care, stand as a testament to your enduring commitment
The recent initiative of Meals on Wheels, serving over 1.5 million beneficiaries daily, demonstrates the transformative power of compassion and collective action, he said.
In the state of Telangana, the Lions have set an inspiring precedent by introducing CT Scan Centres, providing affordable healthcare access to those in need. These initiatives resonate deeply with the profound Sanskrit saying: “Paropakārāya satām vibhūtayaḥ.” Which means “The wealth of the noble is for the benefit of others.”
I encourage all of you to continue engaging with communities, extending your mission of selfless service, and inspiring others to join this noble endeavour.
Together, we can realize the vision of a society that embodies unity, empathy, and progress.
