Roorkee, 03-10-2024: Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and EnrgEnv Smart Chemicals and Materials Pvt. Ltd. , a start-up, has signed a Technology Transfer Agreement on the technology that has been developed at IIT Roorkee by Prof. Paritosh Mohanty and Ms. Bishnupriya Swain related to the solid electrolyte for Li-ion batteries.

The invention developed at IIT Roorkee relates to a method of synthesis of Lithium Lanthanum Zirconium Oxide (LLZO) and doped LLZO, solid-state electrolytes for Li-ion battery, at low temperature by a modified sol-gel method.

Manas Ranjan Katual, Co-founder, EnrgEnv Smart Chemicals and Materials Pvt. Ltd said regarding the technology transfer, “This technology transfer represents a game-changing milestone for the sustainability sector and our company. IIT Roorkee’s innovations address a critical gap in the availability of LLZO, with no current manufacturers in India. We are confident that this breakthrough will not only accelerate self-reliance but also drive sustainable growth, leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s green future.”

Speaking on the collaboration with EnrgEnv Smart Chemicals and Materials Pvt. Ltd, Prof. Akshay Dvivedi, Dean of Sponsor Research and Industrial Consultancy (SRIC), IIT Roorkee, said, “These cutting-edge technologies not only exemplify the spirit of innovation but also play a pivotal role in propelling India towards a self-reliant and prosperous future. By fostering industry collaborations and harnessing our strides in Li-ion battery self-sufficiency, we are driving the nation’s progress and sustainability”.

Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, highlighted, “The technology transfers we witness today go beyond mere innovation—they are pathways to inclusive growth. The production of LLZO will significantly reduce India’s dependency on external sources for fabricating Li-ion batteries. This breakthrough aligns with our national priorities, fostering self-reliance and strengthening the foundation for sustainable progress. This breakthrough not only strengthens our national priorities of self-reliance but also accelerates the transition to renewable energy, reduces carbon footprints, and promotes the circular economy. By fostering sustainable manufacturing practices, we are paving the way for a greener, more resilient future for India.”
