At just 10 years old, Anjana Padmanabhan won Indian Idol Junior and became a household name. Now, over a decade later, she’s taking on one of the biggest stages in the world, Times Square in New York City as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Diwali at Times Square this October.

It is a full circle moment for the young singer, who recently returned to the spotlight as a finalist on Indian Idol Season 14. And this time, Anjana is not just performing, but representing Indian music, culture, and tradition on a truly global platform.
Anjana’s performance is set to be a 30-minute mix of high-energy songs, solos, duets, and multilingual medleys. She’ll also be teaming up with Indian Idol 13 winner Rishi Singh for a special collaboration. Expect a mix of Indian classical influences blended with modern pop and upbeat rhythms that are sure to get the crowd going.
One of the things that makes Anjana stand out is her ability to sing in over 14 languages, something she is known for. At Times Square, she’ll sing in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi to showcase India’s rich diversity through music.
But there is more. Anjana is also adding a creative twist to her set, a Jugalbandi (Musical Fusion) between the Kazoo (A quirky wind instrument that went viral during her Indian Idol days) and Konakol, a South Indian style of vocal percussion that is often compared to Indian beatboxing. It is a fun and experimental segment that brings together tradition and innovation in a way only she can.
Even her outfit has a story. For this special performance, Anjana will wear an outfit made from her grandmother’s and mother’s Kanjivaram saree. Designed by her best friend Keerthika Sivashankar. The look blends tradition with a modern style and is a heartfelt tribute to the women who shaped her life and career.
“Every performance is personal to me,” Anjana says. “Even though I have sung in the U.S. before, Times Square is on another level. It’s emotional and exciting, I get to share my culture, my sound, and my story with the world. This is a dream come true.”
And it is just the beginning. Anjana has a bunch of new projects lined up including original music and collaborations that explore her unique sound, a blend of Indian roots and global vibes.
With this milestone performance, Anjana Padmanabhan is not just singing at Times Square. She is making her mark on the world stage.
